On Sunday (January 31), the South African weekly Sunday Times ran an article on Franz Beckenbauer's rejection of comments made by Uli Hoeneß, President of German football giant Bayern Munich, about the World Cup in South Africa. Hoeneß was quoted in a Munich newspaper last week saying that he was never a friend of an African World Cup due to security concerns and will not consider attending the tournament.
